This week we get to know Julie from Abigail’s Attic who creates crocheted and sewn headbands and more!  Julie’s shop is full of adorable delights and I just love her product photography!

il_570xN_439298348_5rvc1. Tell us a bit about yourself and where the inspiration came from to start your Etsy shop.

My name is Julie. I live in Maine with my husband, daughter, a few chickens, the occasional pig, and a cat who thinks she is a dog.

Abigail’s Attic is named after my 1 year old daughter. She is my inspiration. When my husband and I found out we were expecting, we decided that I would stay home with our child. Daycare is so expensive that it wasn’t worth it to have me working outside the home. But with me not working anymore, money got very tight. I knew I needed to do something. I wanted to be able to not just help provide some income for my family but also be able to set aside some for Abby’s future.

I have been crocheting and sewing most my life. After I purchased a headband for Abby for Christmas is when I had the “ah ha” moment to start the Etsy shop.

2. Do you have a favourite piece? Tell us about the thought process involved in creating it and why it is your favourite.

Oh that is a hard question. I really enjoy the Baby Flower Headband- “The Abigail” and the Heart Headband. These are both some of my first pieces. That is part of what makes them my favorites. I also love how cute but super simple they are. I love more minimalist pieces.il_570xN_437246622_ejm3

I can’t say there was much thought process. I have a tendency to have ideas suddenly pop into my head. In all areas of my life, not just the shop. With the shop, it seems to work well. I usually have to create the item as soon as I think about it and then tweak it a little to work like I was hoping. With the rest of my life….well, don’t ask my husband about some of the meals I have created. 🙂

3. What is it that makes your shop unique?

A few things. The first is how simple my items are. A lot of other accessory shops and businesses out there right now, especially for babies, go a little more over the top. Mine are more simple. I want my accessories to help show how adorable your baby is, not overpower them.

Second, the majority of my items have multiple color and size options. This makes it easy to basically customize your purchase at no extra charge.

Third, my items are very affordable. I want the average mom who may not always have a lot of extra income, like myself, to be able to treat herself and her child without breaking the bank.

4. What’s next in the pipeline?

More sewn items. I’m hoping to add some items like hooded towels and shopping cart covers soon. I also have more crochet items to add this fall, just in time for winter.

I just purchased three new colors for headbands so those will be coming soon. Even with adding more variety to my shop, baby headbands will always be my first love. 🙂

5. Tell us something about you or your shop that you haven’t previously shared!

First and foremost, I am a Christian. I am so thankful that God blessed me with my crafting talent so I am able to help provide for my family while being able to be a stay at home mom.il_570xN_437238288_5cr8

Random facts about me: My husband competes in lumberjack competition so I spend my weekends all summer and fall cheering him on. I have even started helping run some local competitions in the past few years.

6. And finally, let us know where we can find you.
